D9 Votes Harlem 2024
Saturday, October 12, 2024, marked a significant milestone in our community's history. The New York Alumnae Chapter (NYAC) and eight Divine 9 (D9) organizations stood at the foot of the Harriet Tubman Statue in Harlem for the 2024 D9 Harlem Votes initiative, a day we proudly dedicated to social action and service.
The 2024 D9 Harlem Votes initiative embodies the spirit of unity and collaboration.
This Call-To-Action was ideated by Paster Michael A. Walrond, Jr. (@mikewalrond), Senior Pastor at First Corinthian Baptist Church (@FCBCNYC) and Member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., led by Kercena Dozier (FCBC Social Justice Ministry Leader, and Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.); along with a dedicated planning team comprised of eight of the nine D9 organizations. We began our day with a D9 breakfast at Angel of Harlem restaurant, followed by a Press Conference and Prayers from (D9) faith-based community clergy leaders.

Then, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., our D9 organizations spread out throughout Central Harlem and East Harlem to register new voters, check voter registrations, assist with updating mailing addresses, and locate polling sites. We educated voters on what was on their ballot, and, most importantly, we empowered them to believe in their voting power and to commit to going to the polls during Early Voting (between October 26th-November 3rd) and on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, Election Day.
We want to acknowledge members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and NYAC members who contributed to the success of the day:

Honorary Member, Ambassador Rev. Dr. Suzan Johnson Cook (@ambassador_sujay); Kercena A. Dozier, Esq. (@kercena_a_dozier) (DST-NMAC and FCBC Social Justice Ministry), Lead Organizer; Rev. We are immensely grateful to Ashley M. Isler (DST-NYAC), the official photographer of the 2024 D9 Votes Harlem, for immortalizing this historic day through her lens.
